Dr. Sam Schmitt has been with Austin Veterinary since the very beginning — bringing 12 years of dedicated practice to the team and the community. He earned his veterinary degree from Ross University, completing his clinical year at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. His clinical focus centers on dental and oral surgery as well as soft tissue surgery, two disciplines that require precision, skill, and a steady hand.
Dr. Sam and his wife, Dr. Chrissy Schmitt, are a true veterinary family — the two met during their time at Ross University in St. Kitts and went on to complete their clinical training together at Auburn. At home, they are kept happily busy by a full house of pets: three dogs — Brew (a Labrador), Olive (a Feist mix), and Petunia (a Chiweenie) — two cats named Piper and Sparky, and a hamster named Ella who belongs to their daughter, who is the center of their world.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Sam enjoys fishing, boating, and traveling with his family. He is also an active community member, serving on the Carteret County Consolidated Health Board.
